Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care is a subject where students are encouraged to be enterprising and innovative. Most students in the department will be given the exciting opportunity to work one day a week with one of the following client groups.

 

  • Health (fitness and wellbeing)
  • Early years (care and education)
  • Care of older people
  • Individuals with specific needs.

 

Course Outline/Overview

 

This course is currently offered to Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11) and Key Stage 5 (years 12 and 13).

 

Key Stage 4

The GCSE course covers the following topics

 

  • Human Growth and development
  • Care Needs
  • Care Providers
  • Social Policy Development
  • Health and Well Being
  • Improving Physical Health
  • Promoting and supporting health improvement


We also offer two Btec courses:

 

  1. Children-s Care Learning and Development (Year 10)
    • Childrens Development
    • Theoretical Concepts of Emotional DEvelopment
    • Keeping Children Safe

     

  2. Btec Health and Social Care (Year 11)
    • Communication and Individual Rights

Key Stage 5

Beyond Key Stage 4 we currently offer students the opportunity to study for an A-Level in Health and Social Care offering both e single a double award programmes
