Annie

STUDENTS have faced their biggest ever audiences after the curtain went up on a spectacular annual production.

Youngsters at Trinity Academy, in Thorne, near Doncaster, took to the stage in March 2009 for a three-night run of their version of the classic musical, Annie.

A total of 1,500 people joined the audience to see the favourite rags-to-riches tale played out in the Academy hall.

Thirty-five students made up the cast that told the story of Annie's journey from the orphanage ruled with an iron fist by Miss Hannigan to the splendour of Daddy Warbucks' mansion.

Students of all ages were involved in every aspect of the production, from the starring roles to behind-the-scenes technical work.

Christina Urwin made her debut in the title role of orphan Annie and was supported by Jacob Smith as Daddy Warbucks, Claire McClusky as Mrs Hannigan and Rob Lee as Rooster.

Head of drama Siobhan Foster directed the show and was supported by musical director and head of music Jane Orsborn, assistant director Katy Jenkins, choreographer Gemma Fisher, the art department who made costumes and props and technical and audio visual staff.

Assistant Vice Principal Nick Mather said: "Staff and students really put in a tremendous amount of work, giving up many weekends and evenings to ensure that this was our best production yet."

Proceeds from the show will go towards the Academy's three charities - Bluebell Wood Hospice, Cancer Research UK and SAO Cambodia - as well as student expeditions this year on the Tall Ships and to Uganda.
